Abstract

Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is a block cipher cryptography algorithm which was built to replace Data Encryption Standard (DES). AES has better security and efficiency comparing to other identical algoithm. However, a study from Biryukov et al (2010) has solved 10 from 14 round AES 256 which is equivalent to AES 128, using Related Key Attack. It proves that secrecy of key become main factor in AES security. The secrecy of key can be improved by using Pseudo Random Number Generator (PRNG). Simple PRNG that has theorytical complexity is Blum Blum Shub (BBS) and Chaotic Function (CF). Another issues beside security factor is AES was categorized in block ciphers. That makes AES need process time quite high. That issues can be minimalized using ShiftRows modification. By those issues this study modify AES using technique of BBS - CF and ShiftRows modification. This study took process time as speed indicator and Avalanche Effect as security indicator. The results of this study shows that modified AES using technique of BBS - CF and ShiftRows modification can reduce encryption time by 0,69 ms for every 16 Bytes plaintext, and reduce decryption time by 0,18 ms for every 16 Bytes ciphertext. The results also shows increasing pecentage on average Avalanche Effect by 0,39 %.
