Abstract

A number of studies have been investigated to compare the efficacy two types of Written Corrective Feedback (between direct and indirect feedback) and examined which technique provides greater accuracy. However, the results of previous studies reveal inconsistent finding. One side claim direct CF is better, the other side claim indirect CF is better. Therefore, in order to contribute to the body of knowledge this study is intended to investigate the effectiveness of direct and indirect CF on improving EFL learners’ writing accuracy. This study uses quasi-experimental design in two classes. Thirty eight learners of two English intermediate writing classes were assigned into two groups (i.e. direct group and indirect group). The learners produce three new pieces of descriptive writing (pre test, treatment writing, and post test) and receive corrections from lecturer. The English article system was targeted in the corrective feedback. The findings suggested that the difference between these two types of WCF is not statistically significant.
