Abstract

The government is currently promoting the school literacy movement, one of the strategies which is launched by the government in the school literacy movement namely the application of T-I-P Tables (know-to-learn) is a strategy to help understanding the text. One of the things that could affects reading activity is interest. Interest in reading and interest in general could be grown one way by modeling. This research applies T-I-P table strategy combined with REACT learning model. The REACT model is a contextual learning model consisting of five stages: relating, experiencing, analyzing, cooperating, transfering. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of T-I-P table strategy in REACT to reading interest and reading comprehension of students. This research is conducted to VIII grade student in SMP Negeri 5 Malang. The type of research used is quasi experiment with Design Nonequivalent Control Group Design that consists of control and experimental groups that are not selected randomly. The research instrument consists of scales of interest reading and test sheet of reading comprehension about of excretory system. The data analysis which is used in this research is ANAKOVA, using pretest and posttest data of the students. Normality test using kolmogorov smirnov, homogeneity test using levene test. After assumption test, hypothesis test is done by using ANAKOVA test with asignificance of 5%. The results showed that there were differences between the experimental and control classes. The significance value for the strategy on reading interest is sig (0,031) <0,05, which means that there are differences in TIP table strategy in REACT against reading interest, and sig value for strategies on reading comprehension, namely sig (0.004) <0.05 which means there are different TIP table strategies in REACT to reading comprehension.
