Abstract

Staphylococcus epidermidis is one of the bacteria that can cause infectious diseases. In general Staphylococcus epidermidis can cause diseases of swelling (abscess) such as skin infections or acne (Radji, 2011). Cinnamomum burmannii leaf extract has a substance which gives anti microbial effects that can be used as an inhibitor of the Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria’s growth because it contains substances such as essential oils, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids. The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of the concentration of cinnamon leaf extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) and to determine the concentration of extract which has the best influence to the inhibition zone diameter of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria and the result of this research is used as biological learning source in the form of the learner's work sheet (LKPD). The type of research used is True Experimental Research. The research design used The Posttest-Only Control Group Design, in this design there are two groups i.e the experimental group and the control group. While the experimental design using non-factorial Randomized Design (RAL), with 7 treatments (negative control using aquades, positive control using tetrasiclin, extract concentration 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%). The data were obtained then analyzed using the One Way Anova test and continued Duncan's test to determine the best or most effective treatment. This research was conducted in Biology Laboratory of University of Muhammadiyah Malang, on 17 – 18 May 2017. The results showed that there was an effect of giving various concentrations of cinnamon leaf extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) to the inhibition zone diameter of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria’s growth. The concentration of cinnamon leaf extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) which has the best influence to the inhibitory zone diameter of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria is 100% with the mean of inhibitory zone diameter 15,16 mm.
