Abstract

Biology handouts based on Islamic science is a teaching material that can enrich the students’ knowledge about the integration of biological material with Islamic studies. The teaching resources which integrate biology with Islam is not quite for students. Islamic studies are examined based on verses of Al-Qur'an and hadiths related to animalia material which contained invertebrate and vertebrate animals. This research aims to examine the feasibility of biology handout development based on Islamic science on the animalia materials. The type of research used is development research with the model of research and development (R&D). The steps in this development research were carried out using the Hannafin and Peck’s model, which consist of three steps namely, needs assessment, design and development, and implementation. The three steps are connected with evaluation and revision activities. The trial test was conducted in 2 phases: phase I was a limited trial test involving 4 students and stage II was a further trial test involving all of the students in the class. The research was conducted in October 2017 at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Batu. The result of the research shows that the feasibility test of biology handout based on Islamic science on peer reviewer validation is very valid with the percentage of 86.98%. In the validation of material experts obtained percentage of 80% included in the quite valid category. Moreover, the result of teaching media expert validation shows percentage of 85.41% included in the very valid category. For field experts validation or teachers was obtained percentage of 82.29% included in the quite valid category. The results of a limited trial test obtained 93.75% of response percentage included very good category. In further trial test the result obtained 82.04% of response percentage included in the very well category. Hence, based on the result of the development research, it can be concluded that biology handouts based on Islamic science are feasible to use as an additional teaching materials especially of animalia material.
