Abstract

The purpose of this study is an in-depth analysis of metacognition and critical thinking of students in problem-solving. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach, the subject of research is divided into three categories, namely low-ability students, medium and high. The analysis found some interesting things: 1) the tendency of low-ability students to experience Bayes awareness, a condition where knowledge of cognition is not acknowledged by action; 2) the majority of students in each category have difficulty in determining the truth value of a statement on a critical thinking test; 3) low-ability students have difficulty in solving problems since the understanding of the problem, 4) The majority of students in all categories pay less attention to the stage of reviewing the work. This study also shows that each category of students tends to have unique and different ways of solving problems. In general, there is a consistent pattern between metacognition, critical thinking skills and problem-solving for each category. Students who get satisfied in metacognition and unsatisfied in critical thinking get sufficient predicate in problem-solving, students who get satisfied in metacognition and critical thinking also get satisfied in problem-solving, students who get very satisfied in metacognition and critical thinking get very satisfied predicate in problem-solving
