Abstract

In teaching English, vocabulary is the one of the important language components. Vocabulary is an important element needed by the learners in studying foreign language to communicate in target language. Teaching foreign language is not easy, especially in teaching young learners. The teacher must have varieties of technique, strategy or trick. One of varieties of technique in teaching vocabulary is game. Scramble game is the one of learning model can improve concentration and speed of thinking student. Beside it, scramble game also motivating students in learn vocabulary. The research aimed about to describe the implementation of scramble game used by the teacher in teaching vocabulary and the students’ motivation in learning vocabulary by using scramble game. The method conducted in this research was qualitative research. The research subject consisted of an English teacher who applied scramble game in teaching vocabulary, and the third grade students of SDN Bunulrejo 6 Malang. Further, non-participant observation and interview guide were applied in this research. The non-participant observation was done because the researcher did not actively participant in teaching learning process and only observe rather in taking a par, the semi-structure interview was used to get specific data in a systematic a way. The researcher interviews one English teacher in SDN Bunulrejo 6 Malang as the informant to give some information related to the focus on the study. Departing from the findings and discussion, the researcher found that the implementation of scramble game in teaching vocabulary showed a good impact on the students’ vocabulary and the students’ motivation. The students more active and motivated in learning vocabulary by using scramble game.
