Abstract

Software Defined Network is a new approach that is efficient and simpler to manage computer networks. SDN has an architecture that separates between the control plane and data plane aimed at implementing centralized control. Control plane is responsible as controller which controls the behavior of the entire network deployed logically and centered. While the data plane is the switch or router that is in charge to do the forwarding data packets. But with this centralized architecture SDN become vulnerable to Denial of Service Attacks (DoS). This research conducted mitigation against DoS attacks that focuses the attack to controller Ryu. The attack used ICMP flood attack which generates incremental total number of packets on each different attacks every second. The research’s result analysis was done by comparing a scenario either installing the application or not. The test results with installing the application illustrated the average number of Packet In 0.1167 of pkt/s, of which initially 1000.01 pkt/s. The initial controller’s condition without installing the application DoS attacks caused significant disruption to the SDN by decreasing the performance of the controller.
