Abstract
Reading is an activity that has complex process to build new meaning on it. This curral research aims at investigating the media used in teaching reading and students’ responses to the use of media. This research applied qualitative research design. The research subjects consisted of an English teacher who applied teaching media in reading class and the second year students at MTs. Nurus Syam Bondowoso, with the total number of students was 25. Further, non-participant observation, interview guideline and open-ended question were applied in this research. The result shows the teacher used several media in teaching reading such as blackboard, textbook and pictures. In addition, the students of MTs Nurus Syam Bondowoso gave positive response to the media usage in teaching reading. It could be seen that 22 students agreed about the usage of media in teaching reading. The students said that teaching media could attract their attention in learning reading process, easily understand the reading material, better score, joyful, and practical. On the other hand 3 students did not agree because the usage of teaching media affects them to misunderstand about the material, unclear and colorless media performance and complicated vocabulary used.
