Abstract

Software Defined Network (SDN) defines a new paradigm in network architecture that separates the control plane and data plane. In SDN, interactions for Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP) process requires forging a packet that must be handled on controller side, because the amount of multicast traffic is high if not handled. A common approach used is Reactive Proxy, an approach where the controller can reply Neighbor Solicitation (NS) packet request directly on behalf of the hosts and reply with Neighbor Advertisement (NA) packet. But to achieve high scalability, this approach was developed into Semi Reactive SProxy. This approach is designed to offloading the proxy functionality that previously in the controller heading to the switch on the SDN network, without violating the principles of the SDN and is fully OpenFlow standard compliant. In this paper, experiments were carried out using a RYU controller simulated in the Mininet environment. The test results indicate that the approach developed can reduce response time up to 100% and reduce the percentage of CPU controller usage significantly.
