Abstract

This thesis discussess the United States interest for becoming security regime in Asia Pacific related to maritime aspect. Foreign policy of United States focused on Asia Pacific region since leadership of President Obama, namely by Pivot to Asia. One of strategy on this foreign policy is strethening alliances relations such as ASEAN. This research implements the Theory of International Regime in constructivism approach to explain United States Interest becoming security regime toward maritime aspect in Asia Pacific. Agenda of US-ASEAN Sunnyland Summit became an opportunity for US to strengthen perception of ASEAN that US has capabilities as a regime of maritime security in Asia Pacific. US calls for two main norms related to maritime affairs, namely, first, joint commitment of resolving maritime issues peacefully based on principle of international law and UN convention about law of sea (UNCLOS). Second, freedom of navigation and aviation as well as use of the sea based on international law. US interest has been motivated by strategic role of ASEAN and the existence of China in Asia Pacific.
