Abstract

Wireless Sensor Network can be defined as a network layer consisting of several nodes and sensors that enable monitoring of specific environments with each node having limited energy, computing capacity, and memory. Topology in WSN varies from star topology to multi-hop distance topology like mesh. Devices that are used as transmission media in WSN are called transceiver modules that have various types with each modules has its own communication protocol. One of the is nRF24l01 is an ultra low power transceiver module with datarate up to 2 mbps and uses a baseband protocol engine that specifically designed for wireless low power application that are very suitable for WSN. In this research, real implementation was carried out and then performed a performance analysis of nRF24l01 with parameters throughput, delay, jitter and packet loss with variations in testing like differences of range distance, node increments, pause between delivers and topology. From the tests that have been done, the best maximum distance of nRF24l01 is 30 m because of the decrease in performance after that distance. The addition of nodes from nRF24l01 will have an effect when the nodes send simultaneously because it overloads the sink node so that the performances of nRF24l01 decreases. The best time lag between deliveries on hop 1,2 and 3 is at 10 ms pause and above because the node will better prepared when receiving data. The best performance is in the star topology because the star topology only has 1 hop so it does not go through many processes to send data to the sink. The performance of the tree and mesh topology is not to different because the effect of the performance on nRF24l01 is more on the number of hops than on the type of topology.
