Abstract

Background: Hepatitis B is a disease caused by the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). People with stigmatized conditions, such as hepatitis B, are associated with negative attitudes towards potential transmission routes (e.g. unprotected sex) as well as fear of transmitting the virus.
This study aims to analyze the implementation of strategies for developing family support programs in overcoming stigma in hepatitis B patients in the area managed by the UPT Puskesmas Sitiarjo, Malang Regency.
Method: The writing of this final scientific paper by nurses used a research design with a case study approach carried out on 3 hepatitis B patients who met the inclusion criteria including assessment, data analysis, nursing intervention, implementation of family support and evaluation. In the assessment process the author used various data collection techniques such as interviews, observation, and documentation with the patient's family to complete the research data.
Results: The results of implementing family support for hepatitis B patients in dealing with stigma show an increase in patient feelings, open communication and family resilience so that patients are more confident and the patient's mental well-being increases.
Discussion: Implementation of family support for patients includes identifying needs and hopes, resources available, actions that can be taken, counseling regarding motivation and attitude development as well as education on things that can be done for hepatitis B patients in dealing with stigma. The evaluation results show that verbality increases family support, increases open communication skills, increases fulfillment of emotional needs, increases fulfillment of social support, increases spiritual support, increases cooperation in family care, increases families recovering from difficult conditions and increases improvements in relationships with the community.
