Abstract

This research aimed at studing about the implementation of teaching strategy based on KTSP in English class at SMPN 1 Batu. This research tried to find and describe the teaching strategy employed by English Teacher at SMPN 1 Batu based on KTSP. This research was based on the fact that teaching strategy is one of the important factors in education beside teachers, learners, teaching methods and learning strategies. This study used qualitative research. The researcher conducted the semi-structure interview and non-participant observation. The research subject was the teacher of class VIII-C at SMPN 1 Batu. Besides, she has applied KTSP since the goverment released that curriculum; then, she was the more experienced English teacher at SMPN 1 Batu; and, she always followed the teacher trainings held by Diknas or certain institution. Based on the result of interview and observation, this research found that the teacher used different strategy in English class. Listening class used discussion strategy, speaking class used expository strategy, reading class used discussion strategy, and writing class used discussion strategy. Furthermore, in the implementation of teaching strategy based on KTSP at SMPN 1 Batu, English teacher used pre-teaching as a brainstorming or an introduction to the topic, whilst-teaching as the core activity in which she gave the whole materials and explanations about the lesson, and post teaching as the time for doing evaluation. In the teaching learning activities, the teacher taught related to the charactersitics of KTSP such as focus on the learner, develop rich and robust mental models, and provide relevant and contextualzed subject matter. she used all of the components of contextual in teaching learning based on KTSP such as; constructivism, questioning, inquiry, learning community, modelling, reflection, and authentic assessment.
