Abstract

Background: Basil plants (Ocimum basilicum L.) are known as one of the plants commonly used as food ingredients and traditional medicines. Ocimum basilicum L. plants can also be used as an alternative to synthetic pesticides because they are thought to have active compounds that are insecticides. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of giving various concentrations of Ocimum basilicum L. leaf extract as vegetable pesticides to the mortality of jumping fleas (Diaphorina citri Kuw.). Methodology: This type of research is True Experimental Research with research design The posttest-Only Control Group Design uses a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). This test uses the independent variable in the form of Ocimum basilicum L. leaf extract concentration of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. While the dependent variable in this study was the mortality of Diaphorina citri Kuw. imago. Ocimum basilicum L. leaves extracted by maceration with ethanol solvent, then diluted using 10% DMSO. Then phytochemical screening was carried out and tested its insecticidal power with a concentration of 15%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Positive controls used are synthetic insecticides that are often used by farmers while negative controls use distilled water. Result: Ocimum basilicum L. leaf extract contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins and alkaloids. The active compound has insecticidal power against the mortality of Diaphorina citri Kuw. Data of the study showed that there were differences in the mean between groups of treatments for the concentration of Ocimum basilicum L. leaf extract against mortality of Diaphorina citri Kuw. which was observed for 72 hours. At a concentration of 5% there was a mortality of 48%, at a concentration of 10% there was a mortality of 58%, at a concentration of 15% there was a mortality of 75%, and a concentration of 20% there was a mortality of 95%. While the value of LC50: LT50 = 6.24%: ± 66.6 hours and LC90: LT90 = 20%: ± 272 hours. Conclusion: There is an effect of giving various concentrations of Ocimum basilicum L. leaf extract to mortality of Diaphorina citri Kuw. Results of this study can be used as a source of learning biology class X high school in the matter of environmental pollution and conservation efforts.
