Abstract

Writing is an active and productive skill. The skills involved in writing are highly complex. So that, teaching writing is one of the vital aspects in English teaching. The English teacher should find the appropriate technique for teaching especially in writing. Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Ulum Pandanwangi Lumajang has a problem on improving the students` writing ability. Therefore, the researcher conducts a research which is focused on the influence of using dictogloss technique toward students writing ability. The purpose of this research is to know whether the students who are taught by using dictogloss technique have better writing achievement or not than those who are taught without using dictogloss technique. This research used quasi-experimental design. The sample of the research was the eleventh grade students of MA Miftahul Ulum. Pre-test and post-test are applied into both experimental and control class. The instrument was writing test in the form of essay writing test. The researcher analyzed the data gained from pre-test and post-test by using One-Way ANOVA to know the influence of dictogloss technique toward students` writing ability. The result of One-Way ANOVA shows that the value of sig. is .001 (sig. < .05). It means that there is significance different among pre-test and post-test for both control and experimental group. The significance different are showed by post-test for experimental and pre-test for experimental and control group. It indicated that the use of dictogloss technique improve students` writing ability in experimental group. as a result, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. There is an improvement of using dictogloss toward students` ability in writing Narrative text at MA Miftahul Ulum Pandanwangi Lumajang.
