Abstract

The result of observation and interview which was conducted at two elementary schools is that Indonesian language subject of knowing letters material at SDN Torongrejo 01 Batu and SDN Sumbersari 01 Malang lack of utilizing learning media. Schools which have no learning media for knowing letters material only use black and white alphabet books. This research is aimed to: (1) Describe the development of pop-up book media to learn early reading for first graders at primary school, and (2) know the feasibility of pop-up book media of learning early reading for first graders of primary school. This research is type of research development. As the data source, there were two validators, they were media expert and material expert. The validation was done on Mei 7th and 9th, 2018. Another source data were teachers of first graders at SDN Torongrejo 01 Batu and SDN Sumbersari 01 Malang. The implementation was conducted on Mei 14th and 15th by taking questionnaire data of teacher’s and students’ responses and the result of study. The result of research showed (1) this development research indicated that pop-up book media which was able to use on first graders, (2) the development of media was done using ADDIE model which consisted five stages; those were: analysis, plan, development, implementation, and evaluation, (3) the validation score of expert media resulted 92,5% and validation score of material expert resulted 92,5%. The result showed that pop-up book media was feasible or valid for learning activity, (4) pop-up book media obtained positive responses from teacher and first graders at primary school with 100% percentage from teacher’s response at SDN Torongrejo 01 Batu, 90% from teacher’s response at SDN Sumbersari 01 Malang. Students’ responses at SDN Torongrejo 01 Batu obtained 96% and students’ responses at SDN Sumbersari 01 Malang obtained score for about 98%, (6) the result of implementation showed classical completeness at SDN Torongrejo 01 Batu amounted 90% and SDN Sumbersari 01 Sumbersari 01 Malang amounted 91%. This thing shows that pop-up book media is effective for learning activity.
