Abstract

Background: Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) is a kind of musculoskeletal pain interference caused by Myofascial Trigger Point (MTrP). This kind of interference causes some indications such as referred pain, tightness, stiffness, spasm, and the limitation of local fast response movement from the muscles. The pain occurred in MPS locally spreads at the particular regio. Objective: This research aims to know the comparison of the effect between the giving of TENS and kinesio tapping to the MPS upper trapezius. Method:This research used quasi-experimental method with pre and post-test group design. The population in this sample was the students of Enginering Faculty UMM. The total respondents in this research were 40 students divided into two groups, they were: group I consisted of 20 people who were given the treatment of TENS and group II consisted of 20 people with the treatment of KT for two weeks with the frequency of the treatment’s giving was three times a week. Result: The result of analysis using Wilcoxon Test obtained the significance value 0,000 (p<0,05), so it was concluded that H0 was rejected and proved that TENS and KT were effective in decreasing the pain caused by MPS upper trapezius. Furthermore, the result of analysis by using Man-Withney Test between TENS and kinesio tapping obtained significance value 0,035 (p<0,05) so it was concluded that H1 was accepted. The result also showed that there was a difference of the effect comparison of a TENS which was more effective than a kinesio tapping in decreasing the pain caused by myofascial trigger point syndrome upper trapezius. Conclusion: there was a significant comparison of the effect between a TENS and kinesio tapping in decreasing the pain caused by myofascial trigger point syndrome upper trapezius.
