Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe how students' mathematical communication skills solve problems in terms of learning styles through group investigation and peer assessment learning models. This research uses quantitative and qualitative approaches with descriptive types. The subjects of this study were class X students in MAN 1 Malang City which consisted of 8 students of visual learning style, 9 students of auditory learning style and 12 students of kinesthetic learning styles. The data in this study were obtained through questionnaires, observations, written tests and interviews. The instruments in this study were the Learning Implementation Plan instruments, observation sheet instruments, questionnaire instruments, test instruments and interview instruments. The data analysis technique for quantitative approaches is done by calculating the percentage of the results of observation, mathematical communication and problem solving in the overall score of students while the qualitative data is done by reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that learning uses the group investigation model with per assessment, including several steps, namely the division of groups and topics, planning completion, investigating, conducting peer assessments, report writing, presentation and evaluation. Students with kinesthetic learning styles are able to carry out mathematical communication well because it is implemented correctly and completely, students with visual learning styles can be able to carry out mathematical communication well but have errors due to errors in using mathematical symbols, understanding concepts in providing solutions and resolving problems, whereas students with auditory learning styles are able to carry out mathematical communication well but there are some procedures that are lacking and have misconceptions. Overall the percentage of written communication ability of students with kinesthetic learning styles was 79.51%, visual was 76.04% and auditory was 72.22% with good categories. The problem solving ability of students with kinesthetic learning styles is able to solve problems well. Visual students have implemented solutions well but lack in understanding concepts in carrying out problem solving. Students with auditory learning styles carry out problem solving well but sometimes carry out incomplete and erroneous problem solving procedures. Overall, the kinesthetic problem solving abilities were 83.63%, 80.80% and 73.80% with good categories.
