Abstract

The research discusses the utilization of K-Pop as propaganda tool by South Korean government towards North Korea. The issues discussed in this research are the reasons why South Korea utilizes K-Pop as propaganda tools toward North Korea. To answer the issue, researcher analyzes the phenomenon using propaganda theory by Harold D. Lasswell. This is a qualitative research, data taken from books, journals, articles, and data from official websites. South Korea utilizes K-Pop to establish South Korea’s freedom of expression. This is in line with South Korea’s philosophy of Korean Peninsula reunification policy that upholds individual freedom. Therefore the songs chosen as propaganda contain messages of freedom and peace between South and North Korea. Through these messages North Korean society are expected to doubt North Korean leader and defected from the country. Thus, South Korean government utilizes K-Pop to demoralize North Korean soldier and society around inter-Korean borders.
