Abstract

Kersen leaf (Muntingia calabura) contains several active compounds such as flavonoids, saponins and tannins which have function as anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antiseptic. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of giving kersen leaf gel toward healing wound in white mice (Rattus norvegicus) and utilized as biology learning resource. The type of pure experimental research used research design of The Posttest Only Control Group Design. The research design used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments (kersen leaf gel 10%, 30%, 50%, Betadine and negative controls) using 5 replications. The used of concentration of kersen leaf gel was 10%, 30% and 50%, positive controls (Betadine) and negative controls. The used of samples were male white wistar rats aged 3 months with a weight of ± 120-150 g as many as 25 tails. The sampling technique used simple random sampling. The technique of collecting data was observation in the laboratory. Data collected was in the form of incisions, duration of erythema loss, edema, granulation, and duration loss of scar tissue / wound begins to close. The used of data analysis technique was one – away ANOVA and Duncan Test. The results showed that there was an effect of giving gel concentrations of leaf to heal wound in white mice (significant level α <0.05). The findings from the results of the research were giving kersen leaf gel at a concentration of 50% is the most effective concentration because it has the average value of incision length (0,75 cm), duration of erythema loss (5.2 days), edema (7.4 days), granulation (8 days), and duration loss of scar tissue/wound begins to close (4.4 days) at the lowest. The results of this study can be used as a learning resource for biology in the material structure and function of tissue-forming cells in the circulation system in the form of learning posters.
