Abstract

Background: Delay Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is a pain or discomfort feeling which arise from muscle, nerve and metabolism about 12-24 hours after doing exercise and it reaches the highest stage in 24-72 hours. After doing the DOMS exercise it will disappear by it self within 3-5 days when the DOMS occurs. The excessive exercise will cause microscopic damage or injury on muscle fibers that cause an accumulation of lactic acid. Preliminary study results conducted on GYM Detective members shows that people on aged 22 years, as total 32 members are positively affected by DOMS pain. Purpose : To knowing the differences between foam roller massage and manual massage to decrease DOMS pain on GYM Detective member. Methods: The research design used in this study was quasi experimental with pretest and posttest design without control. The study was conducted from 12 February to 18 February 2018 (n=32). The respondents of this research are GYM Detective members. Data analysis was done using Paired T Test. Results: The result of Paired T Test of Foam Roller Massage management with probability P value 0,00 then H0 is rejected. Calculation of Paired T Test management Post Manual Massage with probability P value 0,00 the H0 is rejected. Comparison of effectiveness ratio between Foam Roller Massage and Manual Massage through Independent T Test with probability P value that Foam Roller Massage is more effective than Manual Massage to decrease DOMS pain on GYM Detective Member. Conclusion: There is a reduction in DOMS pain before and after the management of Foam Roller Massage and Manual Massage. Foam Roller Massage is more effective to reduce pain by the difference of 3,23 average while the average of manual Massage is 2,85, because foam roller massage can increase performance and strength of muscle.
