Abstract

The formulation of the problem of this research is how self-disclosure of students on Instagram social media. This research aims to describe the self disclosure of students on Instagram social media. This research uses self disclosure theory (Johari Window). This research uses a qualitative approach and the method used is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. The subjects in this research amounted to three main research subjects according to the criteria of the research subjects using purposive sampling technique. The object of this research is Instagram social media. Data analysis was carried out descriptively using data analysis techniques modeled by Miles and Huberman. The data analysis phase includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. The result of this research shows that self disclosure on Instagram social media makes an individual feel more comfortable to be open about herself. The dimensions of self-disclosure that occur by the subject of this research relate to the frequency aspect (the level of frequency) and the duration aspect (length of access) needed by the subjects to reveal themselves are very uncertain and unpredictable. Valence or nature of messages are divided into two types of messages, namely positive messages and negative messages. The purpose of self disclosure is to satisfy the heart. Intimacy is related to how deep a message is. Self-disclosure motivation is to get recognition. Function as a form of self-clarification and the impact or effect in the form of positive comments and negative comments.
