Abstract

The reduction ecological function of mangrove caused by the decreasing of mangrove area at Cengkrong, Desa Karanggandu, Kabupaten Trenggalek due to deforestation. The purpose of this research is to analyze the ecological function of mangrove based on the absorption capability of carbon dioxide and to analyze carbon storage capacity in mangrove forest stand at Cengkrong, Kabupaten Trenggalek. The type of this research is quantitative descriptive with Quasi Experimental Research design. The population in this research was all mangrove trees and litter not woody in Cengkrong mangrove forest, Desa Karanggandu, Kabupaten Trenggalek. The research variables were tree diameter, kind and number of trees, and wet weight of litter. The sampling technique used in this research is simple random sampling. The data obtained were analyzed using several formulas such as density, relative density, frequency, relative frequency, important value index, biomass, carbon stock and absorption of carbon. While the correlation test was done by using SPSS 21 software. The results showed there are 8 types of mangroves, namely Avicennia marina (Forssk.) Vierth, Bruguiera gymnorrizha (L.) Lamk, Ceriops decandra (Griff), Ceriops tagal (Perr.), Rhizophora apiculata (BI.), Rhizophora mucronata Lmk., Soneratia alba J.E Smith dan Soneratia caseolaris (L) Engl. The absorption of carbon at Cengkrong, Kabupaten Trenggalek has a total average of 33.963,42 tons/ha per year equivalent to 20.136,6 ton/ha stand biomass. Carbon storage capacity in the trees of 9.262,9 tons C/ha. While the carbon storage capacity in the litter of 225,48 tons C/ha. The results of this study can be used as a study of biology learning resources for tenth grade students on ecosystem material.
