Abstract

The phenomenon of communication is now more often using social media. This social media is used by campus organizations as a means of communicating among fellow members. In this case the social media in question is the Line that is used to send messages anywhere, even at any time. The purpose of this study was to describe line use as a medium of communication in the Kine Klub UMM organization for the 2017/2018 period. The Social Information Processing (SIP) theory is considered relevant in this study. This theory explains how communicators who meet through text-based communication with computer mediation (computer-mediated communication-CMC). Through this theory, Joseph Walther explains that how aspects of the communication process interact with the features of media technology to encourage the development of affinity and attractiveness in the online environment. In this study, researchers used a cyber media analysis approach which was divided into four levels, namely media space (media space), media documents (media archive), media objects (media objects), and experience (experiential stories). This study used a qualitative approach with the research subjects being the board of Kine Klub UMM. The researcher used purposive sampling technique. Based on predetermined criteria, the researcher determined 8 members who met the criteria, namely General Chairperson, General Secretary, General Treasurer, Chairperson of Public Relations Division, Chairperson of Division Defa, Chairperson of Diklat Division, Chair of Production Division and Chair of Database Division for 2017/2018. The results of the research obtained describe that Line was chosen as the medium because it was popular and provided complete features so that it was effectively used in the communication process within the organization. The group was formed because of the same common hobbies and passion in the world of cinema. Managers respond more quickly to jokes related to the organization. Based on this, the information disseminated occurs in an informal form. The pattern of communication flow that occurs in the group uses a pattern of flow of all channels or stars, where all managers can interact with anyone regardless of status and position.
