Abstract

Background:Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacteria which is a normal flora in the human skin and mucous membranes, this bacteria also cause infections such as boils, acne, and impetigo. For the medication therapy for infection, antibiotic usage is still the most dominant yet it can cause undesirable side effects, namely the bacterial resistance. Therefore, an alternative medication was chosen in the form of herbal plants based on previous research which is Limonia acidissima fruit. Research Objective: this research conducted in order to obtain data information on compound class and diameter of inhibitory power of fraction ethanol from Limonia acidissima fruit which has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus Research Method: the researcher in this research used the disc diffusion method with Staphylococcus aureus test bacteria with 3 control groups namely (C (S), C (+), C (-)). Control sample consisted of 3 test constructs, namely 5 mg/disk, 7.5 mg/disk, and 10 mg/disk, positive control used 30µg chloramphenicol, while negative control was 1% DMSO. In addition, phytochemical screening was also selected to determine the content of secondary metabolites found in the ethanol fraction of Limonia acidissima fruit. Results and Discussion: The results of phytochemical screening ethanol fraction of Limonia acidissima fruit was identified it contains saponins, alkaloids, terpenoids and anthraquinones. The results of the disc diffusion test of the ethanol fraction of Limonia acidissima fruit was characterized by inhibition zone diameter at a concentration of 5 mg/disk at 19.5 mm, a concentration of 7.5 mg/diskat 23.63 mm, a concentration of 10 mg/disk at 26.76 mm.
