Abstract

The utilization of puppet media on the students of grade 1C at State Elementary School of Ketawanggede Malang was able to attract students' interests in learning, so that a research, as an effort to analyze the utilization of the media in apperception activity and classroom management skill, needed to be conducted. This research was intended to (1) describe the utilization of puppet media in apperception activity and classroom management skill on the students of grade 1C at State Elementary School of Ketawanggede in Malang (2) describe the didactic function of puppet media in apperception activity and classroom management skill on the students of grade 1C at State Elementary School of Ketawanggede, Malang (3) describe the meaning of literacy from the utilization of puppet media in apperception activity and classroom management skill on the students of grade 1C at State Elementary School of Ketawanggede in Malang. A qualitative research approach and descriptive research method were used in this research. The teacher of grade 1C who used puppet media was selected as data source. This research was carried out in May 2018. Data analysis was done by collecting, reducing and presenting the data as well as drawing a conclusion. The results showed that (1) the utilization of puppet media in apperception activities on the students of grade 1C was done by delivering several interesting stories which made the students motivated in learning. The story was related to the activities or events experienced by students, whereas the utilization of puppet media in classroom management skill was to attract students 'attention to concentrate or focus by telling them stories or inviting them to ask questions about their daily activities (2) the didactic function of puppet media utilization in apperception activity consisted of motivation, activity, demonstration, apperception, and repetition. Hence, the didactic function of puppet media in classroom management skill covered motivational principle, activity, demonstration, collaboration, and evaluation (3) the meaning of literacy from the utilization of puppet media in apperception activity and classroom management skill made the students feel courageous to communicate with their friends and make them think critically. This research suggests the teachers to be able to utilize various media in which it is capable to foster the students’ learning motivation.
