Abstract

Gourami is a fish that has a high level of consumption, but its growth is very slow. Efforts to increase the production of gurami (Osphronemus gouramy) can be done by fasting. Fasting means feeding at intervals determined by the effective absorption expectations. Fish may experience increased appetite after the fish is fastened. Increased feed consumption after fasting causes fish to experience hyperphagia, a condition in which fish appetite increases for a period of 2-3 days after the fish is fasted for a certain period and will return to its normal state. During the state of hyperphagia can provide a sufficient supply of nutrients to meet metabolic needs after the fish is fasted so as to increase growth. This research aims to accelerate growth by saving feed. This research was conducted laboratory scale using experimental method. Each aquarium contains 10 carp with a length of about 8-10 cm. The treatment amounted to 4 with repetitions 5 times. The SGRw (Specific Growth Rate weight), SGRl (Specific Growth Rate Length) and PER (Protein Efficiency Ratio) data were collected once every 10 days and then tested anova analysis and continued with homogeneity test. The results of the SGRw study showed no effect, but P3 (eating 3 days fasting 1 day) approached the control by 4.42 ± 0.75% and SGRl showed the same results while PER showed results that were not significantly different from the P3 value approaching P4 of 19.84 ± 5.42%. Fasting on gouramy with different time intervals not been affects growth and protein efficiency ratios.
