Abstract

Software Define Network (SDN) is a network protocol that can separate the control plane and forwarding plane in router device into two different devices. To be able to run the SDN protocol, OpenFlow is needed as the communication protocol between the control plane and the forwarding plane. There are two types of SDN implementation on network devices, one of them is software-base, which is adding OpenFlow packages to network devices to become switche OpenFlow software-based. In this study using the Mikrotik RB951Ui-2ND device in the Informatics Engineering Laboratory as a forwarding device. In order to be able to run SDN Mikrotik has provided the OpenFlow 1.0.0 package for their device, but this package is still in the development and experimental stages. After implementation, QoS testing is carried out on SDN and non SDN networks with traffic loads of 20Mb - 100Mb and no traffic load. The results for SDN have a delay value that is better than non SDN, for the jitter portion of SDN and non SDN has almost the same jitter value while in the non-SDN throughput section has a higher value than SDN when giving traffic above 40Mb. For packet loss both networks have the same result, which is 0%. For its overall performance SDN and non SDN almost have the same performance, because the SDN network has the advantage that the routing load on the router device can be reduced by the presence of a controller that performs routing and non-SDN networks in the informatics engineering laboratories that have nice.
