Abstract

Background: At this time, cancer is one of the world health problems including Indonesia. Based on data of Riskesdas (2013), breast cancer is the second causes of death after cervical cancer. There are some methods used to treat cancer such as the surgery, radiotheraphy, and chemotheraphy. But, effectivity are still low, and couldn’t give optimum results. This encourages the development of new drugs that have a good effect by extracting the compounds of natural materials. Objective: To measure the value of IC50 and cytotoxicity of Manilkara zapota seed ethanol extract on MCF-7 cells in vitro by MTT assay method. To identify phytochem constituen contained in the extract. Method: The extraction process of Manilkara zapota seeds with maceration method using ethanol 96% as solvent. To identify phytochemical used Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) method. Cytotoxicity activity of the extract were determined using MTT Assay. The IC50 was analized with probit regresion on SPSS programs. Results and Conclusions: From the results of phytochemical screening, the ethanolic extract of Manilkara zapota seed contains alcaloids and terpenoids. The IC50 value of ethanolic extract Manilkara zapota seeds to MCF-7 cells were found 120.184 μg / mL. From the result it can concluded that Manilkara zapota seed ethanolic extract does not cytotoxic potential on MCF-7 cells.
