Abstract

Background : Infection is one of the health problems in the world, including Indonesia. One of the causes of infectious diseases is Staphylococcus aureus which is a normal flora and can be a pathogen in the body. The treatment of infection that is often used is using antibiotics, this treatment which was originally believed to be a drug that can kill bacteria, turned out to cause a new problem that is the emergence of multiresistant bacteria. Therefore, it is needed an alternative to the use of natural medicines, namely from plants. Citrus reticulata is known to have activities such as anticancer, and antibacterial. Objective : This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of ethyl acetate extract of Citrus reticulata fruit peel on Staphylococcus aureus by disc diffusion method. Method : antibacterial activity test using disc diffusion method. a 6 mm disc containing a test solution was attached to Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). The concentration of the test solution used was 5%, 10% and 25% with positive control of chloramphenicol 30 µg/disk and 2% DMSO as a negative control. Then incubation for 18-24 hours at 37°C. Result and Conclusion : ethyl acetate fraction Fruit peel of Citrus reticulata has antibacterial activity with a concentration of 5% (3,500 μg / disk) of 8 mm; 10% concentration (7,000 μg / disk) of 11 mm and a concentration of 25% (17,500 μg / disk) of 15 mm. The higher the concentration of ethyl acetate fraction of the fruit peel of Citrus reticulata the higher the inhibition zone.
