Abstract

Charcoal is known as soil enhancer, because charcoal has pores that can absorb and store water and nutrients, then the water and nutrients will be issued as needed. Wood vinegar can be used as a booster for plant growth. Payamara (2011) states that wood vinegar can be used as a pesticide and increase soil fertility. The plants used in this study were Kepuh (Sterculia foetida L.). This research was conducted to determine the effect of giving charcoal and wood vinegar to the growth of kepuh seedlings. The research was conducted from May to July 2018 at the Screen house Forestry. The method used in this study is by using factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of two factors. The first factor is the provision of wood charcoal which consists of 3 levels. The second factor is the provision of wood vinegar which consists of 4 levels. Each of them was repeated 3 times. Parameters observed were height, number of leaves, stem diameter, root length, dry weight, and wet weight. Data were analyzed by variance and continued by Duncan test to find out differences in treatment. The results of the variance analysis showed that the highest variable and the highest number of leaves was the combination of 15% wood charcoal treatment and 1% wood vinegar (A3C2), not statistically significantly different from the treatments of A3C1 and A2C2. The variable diameter, root length, wet weight, and dry weight were not statistically significant differences in interaction.
