Abstract

Corn is one of important food in the world as a source of food, feed and raw industrial materials. Land availability is one of the things which needs to get the government's attention.The achievement of food self-sufficiency is one of the priorities in national development, so it is needed supports for land availability. Alternative to over come this problem is the use in rain stone land for corn planting. However, it is necessary to do adaptation testing on corn varieties that can grow and produce higher corn production than to other varieties. The purpose of this study was to study the growth response and the result of young harvest in nine major corn varieties which is cultivated on rain fed land. The research was carried out inthe experimental garden of fence distention in Kedungpenggaron Village, Kejayan District, Pasuruan Regency in altitude of 104 meters above sea level. This research was stated from March to May 2018. The experimental design was used RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) one factor, namely nine corn varieties consisting of BISI 2, BISI 226, BISI 228, BISI 816, DK 77, PERTIWI 3, P 21, NK 6172. Each treatment was repeated three times. The number of each plant treatment was 15, the samples observed were 4 plants. The observed variables included high plant, number of leaves, stem diameter, emergence of male and female flowers, position of high cob, number of cob, ear length of cob, diameter cob, weight of cob, in each plant, weight of outer cob, weight cob in each plot, number of seeds and seed density. The result showed a relatively similar vegetative growth response except Bisi 228 variety. It showed bigger growth to plant height, length and diameter cobs showed stem diameter growth, the P 21 variety showed the best growth response. Where as in the generative growth response of harvest yields which are relatively significant in weight husk cob, weight cob without husk, number of seed circumference, and seed density.
