Abstract

API Steel 5L-X52 is pipe which is made and produced based on standard API that is American Petroleum Institute which this pipe has carbon grade 0,3 % ( journal data Iscor Flat Steel) that is included in carbon steel is being. In book ( Wiryosumarto,2000) mentioned carbon steel is having level of good enough weld ability compared to with high carbon steel. There are some a real factor influences strength of metal for example carbon grade contained by the metal, height of temperature heating (temperature of austenite), detention time ( homogeneity austenite), and cooling speed ( quenching). Purpose of performed by this research is to increase strength of steel material API 5L-X52 with treatment of steep quenching. From result of research is obtained conclusion for heat treatment with temperature 800, 850, 900, 950oC consisted of by metal base district, HAZ and Las that for mains metal (base metal) from steel API 5L-X52 gotten best hardness at temperature 950oC with hardiness 47.83. At district HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) is gotten best hardness at temperature 950oC with hardiness 51.66, and of district Las is gotten best hardness at temperature 950oC with hardiness 55.5.
