Abstract

Background: Chlorpromazine is the first generation antipsychotics in the treatment of schizophrenia. The results of a study showing the use of chlorpromazine in schizophrenic patients can provide good performance and other studies suggest the use of chlorpromazine provides extrapyramidal side effects compared with atypical antipsychotic drugs. Objective: This study aims to determine the pattern of chlorpromazine drug use in patients with schizophrenia including type, dosage, interval, frequency and route of administration in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: This was an observational study with retrospective methods in Schizophrenia patients period 1 September 2017 to 30 December 2017 at Psychiatry Hospital of Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat Lawang, Malang. Results and Conclusions: Chlorpromazine monotherapy was used in 1 patient (2%) outpatients. The highest three-combination therapy was used in outpatient as many as 30 patients (47%) with the most combination of group 2 antipsychotics plus anticholinergics as many as 26 patients (87%) with the most doses and routes used chlorpromazine (1x200mg) route oral plus risperidone (2x2mg) route oral and trihexiphenidyl (2x2mg) route oral administration. Inpatient use only combination therapy two and combination of four each of nine patients (50%) with the most dose and route chlorpromazine 1x100mg oral. The pattern of switch use in outpatient were 13 patients and hospitalization of 9 patients.
