Abstract

This study discusses the analysis of China's Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) with countries are located in the Mekong river basin. The research question of the problem is, why is China forming LMC cooperation with Indochina region countries in utilizing water resources in the Mekong river. The purpose of this study was to find out the reasons for China in forming LMC cooperation. Then, this research is explanative with data collection techniques in the form of library studies (library research). The author uses a non-western perspective, called political hegemony theory from ancient Chinese thought. The result of this study is that LMC cooperation carried out by China aims to gain international recognition of hegemony based on three indicators. The indicators are to form cooperation based on the principle alliances of friendship, establish cooperation as large states in the Mekong river area, and become the leader of an LMC agreement that serves to establish the norms and rules that apply in the cooperation. The conclusion of this study is that China's behavior in cooperating is still based on the philosophy of Chinese thought in the past.
