Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know and to analyze the housewives’ perceptions who were the members of Family Welfare Coaching Team toward children’s dating styles on Facebook. The research approach used was qualitative descriptive with PKK or Pembinaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (Family Welfare Coaching) Team of Blimbing Village as the research subject that was chosen through purposive sampling technique. The data collection methods used were observation, interview and documentation. The collected data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman interactive model. There were three processes in forming a perception. Starting from the first that was selection process, it sought interesting things that were influenced by the five senses. Next, organization process was to regulate things that have been noticed and influenced by personal constructions and stereotypes. Then, the process of interpretation was to explain what has been set in the organization process as a perception. The results of this research found the perceptions of the nine participants who had seen the children’ dating styles in the form of intimate photos posted on social media. Eight of the participants said it was inappropriate photos that should have not be shared on Facebook, besides being immature, indulgence such things were considered as shameful, disrespectful, moral ethic violating and provoke slander. One participant stated it was fine because, when it was viewed from the positive side, it was already became a trend, children could also be more open with parents by not dating secretly. Therefore, children who use Facebook need parents’ understanding and monitoring. It can be concluded that the housewives who had seen the children’s dating styles on Facebook perceived that dating in social media was inappropriate, shameful and it violated moral ethic. A housewife feels concerned and uncomfortable because of inappropriate, disadvantageous, and harmful submission posted by the children.
