Abstract

Background: Linalool content in Cananga oil and patchouli alcohol on patchouli oil has repellent activity made in a lotion preparation that can be used as an alternative repellent of natural ingredients. Objective: To know the activity containing Cananga odorata oil (2.5%, 5%, 7.5%) and Patchouli oil (Pogostemon cablin B.) 1% against Aedes aegypti female mosquito protection. Method: This research is experimental research, made 3 formula with different cananga oil content, that is formula 1 (2,5%), formula 2 (5%), formula 3 (7,5%) and done 3 replication. The test was performed using Aedes aegypti mosquitoes as much as 200 tails each replication. One replication up to 6 periods, from time 0 to 150. Each period has a time of 30 minutes with 3 minutes of exposure each period. Protective power is effective if it has mosquito protection against > 80%. Results and Conclusions: Based on the test of protection strength of mixed cananga oil (2.5%, 5%, and 7,5%) and 1% patchouli oil, the result of protection power of formula 1 is 90.70% at period 1 and effectively last for 2 periods (1 hour). Formula 2 produces a protection power of 92.31% in period 1 and is effective for a period of 3 (1.5 hours). While the formula 3 produces protection power of 97.11% in period 1 and effective up to period 3 (1.5 hours). With the increase value of oil it will be stronger too, while the longer the testing time, the protection will be reduced.
