Abstract

The phenomenon that emerges today is when a family has used social media as a means to communicate, then in their daily life will have an impact on the reduced intensity of conversations that occur because everything has been diverted virtually. The research objective is to find out the communication patterns that arise due to the development of social media. This research approach using qualitative and type in this study is descriptive. This study uses a data analysis model from Miles and Huberman (1992) namely an interactive analysis model, where in this method there are four components of analysis, namely: data collection, data reduction, data display (data presentation) and conclusion drawing and verification . The validity of the data is using triangulation with the source, which means comparing and checking back the degree of confidence of information obtained through the time to be carried out and the different methods of analysis. Based on the results of the study discussed in the previous section, it can be seen the family communication patterns of social media users in the family, namely between father, mother and child, where the intensity of direct or face-to-face communication decreases with the existence of social media. In conducting communication is not free from various obstacles, this is due, among other things, to interference both from outside and from the person who is communicating. Disorders that originate in the family is the existence of their respective activities so that the intensity of communication is reduced. Communication barriers that must be a concern for communicators if they want communication to be successful in the sense that here are parents with children so that communication remains intertwined. The results also show that communication patterns in a family with social media have an important role and influence children's attitudes and behavior. The existence of social media will determine or influence a positive or negative personality depending on parenting, interaction patterns, and communication that are built in the family. The existence of social media has a positive role to support the communication process with other family members.
