Abstract

Kai Islands are located in the Southeast Maluku on Wallacea region . Geographically kai islands located between 5º until 6,5º south latitude and 131º East longitude until 133,5º located on two administrative regions , namely Southeast Maluku District and the City of Tual . Kai Islands have exceptional biodiversity and unique natural vegetation . has various types of forest vegetation , one of the most dominating type of vegetation is tropical forest . Natural vegetation cover Wallacea region include grasslands , scrub vegetation and large trees . Vegetation structure and plant diversity is thus an ideal habitat for fauna , especially bird life , Until now research on birds in Kai Islands is still limited and has never been used as a source of learning Biology The purpose of this study was to determine what species of birds are found and determine the utilization of research results Kai.Jenis Islands birds in the area of research is descriptive quantitative research transect method Point ( Point transect ) , the selection of a study by forest vegetation type , height and the watering place . The study was conducted by walking along the transect , stop at the point that has been set . marking and record all bird species found (seen / heard ) for a period of predetermined ( 10 minutes ) , before moving to the next point . The study was conducted repetition as much as 2-4 times . Identification techniques based on morphological characteristics of birds book using Burnie (2008 ) and identification guides Coates and Bishop (2000 ) , entitled Birds Wallacea region . While the utilization of research results birds in this area in the form of a book Based on the results of the study found 115 species of birds including the 15 oerder , including the order Procellariformes , Pelecaniformes , Ciconiiformes , Falconiformes , Galliformes , Gruiformes , Charadriiformes , Columbiformes , Psittaciformes , Cuculiformes , Stigiformes , Caprimulgiformes , Apodiformes , Coraciiformes , passerines . Some of them are 14 endemic bird species , 35 species of migratory birds , and general or resident birds.
