Abstract

This study contains the accurate and robust control for solar panel system consisting of elevation and azimuth axis tracker. The ultimate objective is the hardware rotation can reach the reference based on the actual sun position image accurately although there is a mechanical load or disturbance signal. The combinations of image processing result as the initial reference and high precision encoder as the controller feedback path intended to obtain the accurate position of hardware response. The control method used is Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) optimized by Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) Sliding Function to obtain the robustness from the disturbance signal or load. The system evaluation process with the proposed method is done in the simulation and hardware validation. The software used for simulation and implementation is LabVIEW, while Vision Assistant as the image processing software. The hardware validation based on the smallest rotation indicates the azimuth rotation accuracy is 0,0332˚ while the elevation is 0,1415˚. The hardware verification to track the sun position image can reach the error value up to 0,2% or 0,009˚ for azimuth, while the elevation is 2,6% or 0,03˚. The accurate tracking angle is expected to optimize the performance of solar panel system.
