Abstract

In addition to fiction films that are patterned entertainment, there is also a type of motive film as a medium of information and education is a documentary film. One of the documentary films that the researchers studied in this study was entitled "Jangan Tutup Sekolah Kami" (Miftahuddin, 2015). The film dilator behind the closure of schools contains many critics of the government in the processing of Education, then the formulation of the problem in this paper is to know how much the frequency of occurrence of criticism to the government on the film. There have been many literatures that have placed films as critical media, events and important moments recorded by the creator to make them documented or knowledgeable products. Especially the documentary film (Parensi, 2005; Nichols, 2010). In this paper the researcher discusses the film "Jangan Tutup Sekolah Kami" using Harold D. Laswell's theory, which using coding symbols, by recording messages in the film systematically and interpreted. This research method use content analysis with quantitative approach and use descriptive research type. The scope of the research is a documentary film "Jangan Tutup Sekolah Kami". Not forgetting as the most important stage of category preparation. There are five categories structure lifted by researchers of social criticism, criticism of education, economic criticism, cultural criticism, and religious criticism. This documentary film was observed through out its duration. Methods of data collection in this study using coding sheets filled by coder that has been determined by the criteria researchers. From the data obtained by the researchers, the results of the content analysis of criticism of the government in the documentary film "Jangan Tutup Sekolah Kami" is declared valid because the results are found to show above 0.75 or 75%. It is known that the criticism category often depicted is the critique of Education with a total of 11 criticisms, on the criticism of 6 critics, and social criticism amounted to 5 criticisms. The criticism of the government that does not appear according to structure categories that have been made of religious criticism and cultural criticism. The researcher concludes that the criticism of the government in this documentary is only three categories of criticism of government in the documentary film is also more focused on the criticism of Education.
