Abstract

Learning is teacher’s plan in providing knowledge process to students. One of them is mathematics. Mathematics is one of sciences used to cultivate reasoning, logical, systematic, and critical thinking in developing science and technology. Some students have difficulty in learning mathematics. This is because off less creative lessons and material. Handout is a teaching material containing summary of materials from various sources relevant to basic competencies made by teachers to be a guide and help students in learning process. This study aims to produce realistic approach-based handout on two-dimentional figure material at VII grade SMP as well as to know the students’ responses and learning outcomes after using realistic approach-based handout on two-dimentional figure material at VII grade SMP. In development of realistic approach-based handout, it is used 4-D development model. The development in this research is only through three stages (three-d) namely: definitions (define), design, development (develop). The defining stages (define) aims to define and learning process to be performed. This stage consists of five steps, namely: initial analysis, student analysis, task analysis, concept analysis and analysis of learning objectives. Stages Design (design) is a stage to design teaching materials based on basic competencies and curriculum. This stage consists of three steps: media selection, format selection, and initial design. In development stage, the researcher develops realistic approach-based handout according to plan which has been prepared. The mathematics realistic approach-based handout that has been generated will go through validation stage. After going through validation stage and stated valid, then the handout is tested. The result of realistic approach-based handout on two-dimentional figure material validation get average for about 3.5 which means very valid and feasible in test. The result of students’ responses questionnaire analysis gets an average for about 89% which means realistic approach-based handout gets very good responses from students. From students’ learning outcomes, it shows that all students’ scores reach KKM that is more than 75, and it passes the trial handout. Therefore, realistic approach-based handout is effective and it can be used in learning process.
