Abstract

This research was conducted in April - June 2017 at Nutrition and Feed Laboratory of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Chemistry Laboratory of UMM and Chemistry Laboratory of University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The purpose and benefit of this research was to know the effect of using banana kepok peel waste as activated carbon to the absorption of metal Cd and Pb and to know the concentration of activated carbon of best pisang kepok peel in absorption of metal Cd and Pb. The method used was experimental method and Completely Randomized Design (RAL). The dose of activated carbon in pisang kepok peel were 5 gr; 10 gr; 15 gr; and 20 g with the same time to absorb Cd and Pb metals. Treatment of kontro was given as comparison by using activated carbon of coconut shell with dose 5 gr, where there were 5 treatments with 3 times repetition. Furthermore, the data obtained were analyzed by variation analysis method (ANAVA) followed by BNT test (Smallest Real Difference). The results of variance analysis showed that the use of activated carbon of pisang kepok peel in absorbing Cd metal had the most significant effect with the best value at 20 gram doses with average post-treatment metal value to 3.17 ppm, and the best active dose of carbon in lead metal absorption test is 20 grams with an average post metal treatment value to 4.32 ppm. However, when compared to the control treatment using coconut shell activated carbon then the best treatment is the control treatment which is able to reduce the cadmium metal content from concentration of 5 ppm to 1.79 ppm while on lead metal can decrease from concentration of 10 ppm to 3.38 ppm. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that coconut shell activated carbon remains a better activated carbon in absorbing Pb and Cd metal than banana peel activated carbon, but activated carbon of pisang kepok peel can reduce the concentration of Pb and Cd metal with the best dose of 20 gram.
