Abstract

Background: Super red dragon fruit peel extract contains some compounds such as anthocyanin. Vitamin E also has activity as antioxidant to protect the cells from free radicals. In this study cream was made with nonionic emulsifier. Tween 80 and span 20 are classified into nonionic emulsifiers, this type of emulsifiers has a neutral and stable pH. Objective: This study is to find out the effectiveness of antioxidant from super red dragon fruit peel extract as well as to find out physical (emulsion type, organoleptic, viscosity, and dispersion) and chemical (pH) characteristics of super red dragon fruit peel extract cream with 3 formula that are FI (8%), FII (10%), and FIII (12%). Method: The antioxidant test used DPPH method, the test on emulsion type, organoleptic cream super red dragon fruit peel extract observed visually. The test on pH, viscosity, and dispersion was analyzed using One- Way Annova. Result and Conclusion: Super red dragon fruit peel extract has IC50 value of 90.11 ppm and can be stated as having activity active antioxidant. Combination of super red dragon fruit peel extract and vitamin E cream to all formulas have soft texture, pink colour, smelled of dragon fruit. For emulsion type result, those three formulas have M/A type. The result of statistical test using one-way annova obtained that there is no significant difference towards pH (5.33- 5.60), viscosity (22500- 25500 cPS), and dispersive power (0.0720- 0.0791 g/cm).
