Abstract

One of the government's policies to improve the quality of life for the elderly is by providing specialized healthcare services for them. The elderly integrated service post (Posyandu Lansia) is one such policy created by the government to enhance the life quality of the elderly. These posts are designed to provide healthcare services to the elderly in a way that is easily accessible and free from discrimination. The aim of this study is to understand the rational choices in healthcare services for the elderly and the impact of these choices on the health conditions of the elderly. The research method used is descriptive qualitative case study, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The subject selection technique employed purposive sampling. The analysis technique in the study uses James S. Coleman's theory of rational choice. The results show that the elderly's rational choices are based on considerations that include: (1) Accessibility and location of the elderly service post being close and easy to reach. (2) Affordable service costs at the elderly service post for the village's elderly. (3) Elder-friendly physical healthcare services and social relationships. (4) Trust in healthcare personnel. The impact of rational choices includes effects on the physical and mental health conditions of the elderly.
