Abstract

This research discusses the influence of the intensity of LINE social media usage in interacting to the level of closeness of friendship relationship among students of Communication Science batch 2013 University of Muhammadiyah Malang. LINE one of the social media that attracted the attention of smartphone users in Indonesia. With the number of users who have reached one million accounts make the LINE social media popular among the college students who can make it easy to interact and form friendships. The purpose of this study is to determine the magnitude of the influence of the intensity of LINE social media use to the level of closeness of friendship relationships in students of Communication Studies batch 2013 University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The research method used is quantitative research with questionnaire data collection technique. The population of this study is a student of Communication Science class of 2013 that has filled pre-survey before with the number of 111 people. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling in getting 86 samples. Data analysis techniques used are the analysis of coefficient of determination, simple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing. Research results obtained t count 7.387 > t table 1.989, then Ho is rejected and Ha accepted. This means that there is an influence of the intensity of the use of social media in interacting with the level of closeness of friendship relationships among students. Contribution of influence between both variable equal to 39,4% and the rest influenced by variable not examined.
