Abstract

The development of mass media which is very significant is accompanied by a shift in the function and role of mass media, especially television, a variety of changes behind a paradigm shift that is more profit-oriented business. This change is marked by the emergence of a commodification practice that begins to lead to negative things. Political economic factors became one of the central factors in influencing change, the media competing into promising business fields. The purpose of this research is to find out how the mass media constructs commodification practices. The method used is a case study on a television mass media network in Malang city with purposive sampling in determining the subject or respondent. The results of this study are (1) the commodification practice which is more directed to the political economy is influenced by the holding system policy. (2) as a network television must be able to support all employees and production operational costs independently. So it can be concluded that the social construction of prostitution practices in a mass media is influenced by the knowledge of media owners who try to rape (doctrine) the media crews to carry out commodification practices.
