Abstract

Mathematics is a subject that has been taught since elementary school which is a container of students to form a systematic, logical, critical, and creative thinking patterns. Thinking is a process done to search for new and unknown information. There are several kinds of stages in thinking, one of which is critical thinking. Critical thinking is a person's ability to analyze problems that exist and can make ideas, then take decisions in making solutions to solve a problem that exists. Problem is a statement that has no way out and no answer. Problem solving is a process done to solve a problem. This study aims to find out the students' critical thinking process in solving the SPLDV problem. The type of research used by the researcher is a qualitative descriptive research with the subject of research students of class VIII A SMP 'Aisyiyah Muhammadiyah 3 Malang as many as 26 students. The instruments used in this study are test questions, interview guides, and document studies. Based on the results of research presented on the results and discussions that have been described it can be concluded that the ability of critical thinking process students in problem solving on SPLDV material is divided into three criteria that is high, medium, and low. Students with high ability to critical thinking process in problem solving, can be seen that the student is able to pass all the stages of starting clarification, assessment, strategy / tactics, concluded. Students with moderate ability to process critical thinking in problem solving, it can be seen that the student is only able to pass several stages of clarification, assessment, problem solving. Students with low ability to critical thinking process in problem solving, can be seen that the student is only able to pass the stage of clarification only able to know the subject matter.
