Abstract

Transformation has the meaning of changing one genre of literary work to a new genre, from novels to drama scripts, from short stories to poetry, or from poetry to songs. Literary works including novels and drama scripts are one of the creative media to feel the dynamics of life and can be transformed, including the novel Si Jamin and Si Johan by Merari Siregar in the play. Based on that, the formulation of the problem in this study are (1) How is the intrinsic element of the novel Si Jamin and Si Johan written by Merari Siregar in the drama script, (2) What is the form of the transformation of Si Jamin and Si Johan novels by Merari Siregar into the drama script. The method used in this study is the Research and Development (R & D) method using an intertext approach. Sources of data in this study are the novel Si Jamin and Si Johan by Merari Siregar by observing data, sentences, and steps, namely (1) information gathering, (2) product design, (3) design validation, (4) ) design revisions, (5) product trials, (6) design revisions, (7) production. This research was carried out through several procedures, namely preparation, implementation and completion. From the results of the analysis and discussion, the conclusion is that Si Jamin and Si Johan novels can be transformed into drama scripts by paying attention to the intrinsic elements in them, including characterizations, plot, setting, and theme. In addition, after going through a transformation process from novels to drama scripts through a series of processes such as validation by experts and trial scripts to several samples, the script was created by Si Jamin and Si Johan by Merari Siregar, adaptation Chaidar Arifin.
